Default Xpand2 multiple instruments midi volume

Hello, I am having a problem with volume control from the channel 3 midi instrument in xpand2 affecting channel 1 and 2 when I have 3 instruments on 1 instance of Xpand. I have looked for odd outputs in the event list and nothing. Just hoping there might be a setting I am not tweaking correctly. Any advice would be helpful.

If you change MIDI channels does the problem follow?

Yes, I have tried different channels, but when I do a volume change on the third or fourth instrument it mutes the first and second until I change them again. Most odd.

That is odd. What are you automating? I think there's a MIDI CC number, OR volume automation. I wonder if you're automating the volume of the plug in, instead of changing the individual MIDI channel?
On the plug-in, you can select which parameters are "automate-able". You should be able to select the volume of the third instrument from there. Then in the Edit page drop down menu, and can view (and edit) that automation.
Sorry... I'm not in the studio so I'm trying to do this from memory.
I hope it helps

Been a long day - but I think this was the Tip:

Instead of creating MIDI tracks for XPand!2, create Instrument tracks.
That gives you audio and MIDI on each track.
Give each track its own MIDI channel (channels 1 to 4).

Thanks for the reply. I was hopeful but still the midi volume control seems to be jumping ship on the various channels once it gets past the first two instruments. Doing the same thing even in an instrument channel. This seems to be a bug. Currently I am just not using xpand in this way.

Okay, after playing with this in several different setups, it seems that the midi controllers are being latched on to by the first instrument to see them. In other words the midi notes are going to their assigned instrument on xpand but the controllers are not being treated channel specific and are just controlling one of the available instruments at random. I may try to assign control to the level fader on xpand but, once again, if anybody knows a setting I am neglecting please let me know.

This is a limitation with MIDI Volume in Xpand (MIDI Volume affect the main volume knob/setting, not the Parts), and was discussed previously at http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=354513

I didn't see this or any workaround (like using controllers 20-23, which are the defaults for the Part Volumes) listed in the knowledge base so I'll add it.

Another Russ Ripper:

Control Automation with Encoder – set to 4 Encoders to CC111, CC112, CC113, CC114.

Right-click on any LEVEL Fader – select Learn MIDI CC.
