Default ASIO Driver Install Problem

THought this topic needed its own thread, it's buried in another and I don't think we are getting Digi's attention on it...

I am having a problem with installing the ASIO drivers on my system. I get an error indicating that an old version of PT is installed, which is incorrect. I have only had 5.3 installed so there should be no old registry info hanging around. Could someone at digi give us some advice, I submitted a bug on the beta but have heard nothing for several days. Need use the digi hardware with some ASIO-support software synths/samplers.

Hello,

What hardware and Pro Tools version are you running?

You will want to use ASIO driver version 5.33b2 with HD hardware
running Pro Tools version 5.33.

If you are on Mix hardware you want to install ASIO version 5.33bcs1
when using Pro Tools version 5.31.

You can download both of the ASIO drivers here:

Sorry I wasn't clear, I have 5.3.3 installed with HD2.
The drivers I have tried to install are the version you indicated, any further advice would be appreciated. I have a sound card and drivers installed, the install notes with the ASIO drivers didn't indicate this would be a problem.

Try removing PT from add/remove programs, restart and reinstalling 5.33.
Then go ahead and try reinstall the ASIO driver.

Also, make sure you have not installed the Wave Driver, it doesn't work with HD.
The Wave Driver would show up in Device Manager > Sound Video and Game > Digidesign Wave Driver.

Well, big surprise I tried this a few weeks ago and it didn't work. Now I see that these ASIO beta drivers are no longer available on the website and I must buy the upgrade to 6.1 to get ASIO drivers, but will they work?
Nice Support.

The ASIO drivers are linked to digidesign hardware only (you don't even need to install Protools on the computer). So you shouldn't have to buy anything. However, DD keeps most legacy software versions available, so if there's a conflict between your version of Protools and some recent ASIO driver, you can still get the old one online (there's a link to it right on the new version page, and older ones show up I think under 'Legacy accessories' or some such).

splattstudio is right, tried this myself, but ASIO didn't work until I installed the card drivers (not ASIO driver) that came with 6.1...

By the way, in case you're still having troubles, I vaguely remember that there's an issue about whether you install the ASIO drivers or Protools first. The new versions do it as part of the setup.exe, but there was something you had to do on older versions.

I'm running a PT/TDM 6.1 on Win XP with an 888-24 I/O.

Can I use either the ASIO or Wave Driver for other programs running on my XP system, such as SoundForge, Media Player, etc...? Or do I have to have PT LE with different hardware (Mbox, etc...)?

Thanks.

Dave

Yes, you should be able to do that.
Since there is an ASIO driver and Wavedriver included on the 6.1 TDM CD.
But for me it has not worked - the Wavedriver works with Windows Media Player but not with Wavelab and the ASIO driver can't be loaded at all with neither Wavelab, Reason nor Cubase Demo.

And for the SECOND TIME when requesting support from Digidesign I get the reply that I should update to PT LE 6.1.1 along with ASIO driver 6.1.1.
HILARIOUS!!!!
The obviously don't read support requests thoroughly.

Hope it works for you,
John
