By the way, it's probably some kind of lack of graphic optimization with the Apple Silicon version of PT which is affecting the first generation M1s, since posts from people that didn't have the sluggishness were all from those running intel processors or a newer Apple silicon, with plenty of GPU power in their SOCs
I'm happy to report that whatever bug that was causing the graphics sluggishness in Pro Tools is gone since I've installed MacOS 14.3!

Although it seems that is still room for improve the graphic performance, maybe with a new Pro Tools version optimized for Sonoma, at least now MacOS 14.3/PT 2023.12 combo it's perfectly usable

14.3 gave me a new bug with PT23.12. eucon 23.11. M2 studio.

fast scrolling up and down in the edit window crashes PT every so often (multiple times a day) - no error though, just force quit and gone.

console logs something about graphics dylibs.

i'll try deleting wavecaches and pt prefs tomorrow.

Sonoma is still not supported. With that said, 14.4 beta works very well here, each and every release has been better on my environment. When you have problems, remember to specify if you have x86 or ARM computer.

I came here to share the same thing. It was super surprising the first time it happened. But after I couple times I realized that's what was causing it - the fast scrolling.

Additionally, moving clips to doing fades too quickly (especially during playback). I get CPU overloads during those motions as well a lot of times.

Basically, if I move a little more slowly and don't take action during tracking, I have less problems - but my process is slowed down.

After running Protools 10 years flawlessly on the Trashcan and 10.12 Sierra we just went on Mac Studio Ultra M2...

Directly upgraded to Sonoma because why not and because we don't touch a system as long as it runs. So fresh installed system with latest 14.3...

So far Protools runs fine natively as well as in rosetta mode, which we ended going for because of izotope production suite rx6 not running on silicon.

What strucked to me in Ventura as well as Sonoma is the uge starting time of protools. Even fresh installed with no additional plugins and nothing else installed on the freshly installed 14.3. It just takes ages to even show the splash screen after fresh reboot.
Once Protools has been launched once, of course it is then a bit faster but the first launch needs around 20s to show up splash screen... How can that be? Full first launch with a few plugs takes around 50 to 60s...

I noticed all non apple apps tend to launch at half the speed of apple apps...

Protools being around 6GB big if I remember well, it should be fully loaded into ram within 1s... Why is the docking icon bouncing 20s before splash... I don't get it.

And it seems nobody is struggling with that issue. Once PT is up and running everything is fine thow but these launch times drive me nuts.

Does anyone experience better launch times or have an idea how to reduce them?

Sudden and complete crashes happening here too on 14.3 with PT 2023.12.1

Completely shuts down Pro Tools with no crash report or notification, bummer.....

Same for me, same versions and M3 Mac.

Scrolling really fast crashes Pro Tools every time.
It was all good before on 14.1 with PT 2023.12

I always wondered why PT takes for ever to load as mentioned. I remember PT10 was insanely instant to load.
