Record Punch Problem: Hear old take/Record new take
I had this strange thing happening today:
Record Mode QuickPunch, auto-input, recording 1 mono track narration. When I punched in, I (and the voice talent) did hear the old take while a new one was recorded. I could also see the red overview while recording, the old take being visually overwritten. So each time there's a new region where the talent says " Aaaah, I hear my old take! What are you doing?". That happened on three punches spread over maybe 100 punches where it didn't. I didn't change any preference or options, except for preroll on/off occasionally. So that was really annoying since the talent and the producer were thinking I was making a mistake. I have this same setup since one year (starting with cs2) with no similar issue. What's wrong, has anybody had this? PT 7.3.1cs5 HD2 192i/o G5 4x2,5GHz regards and thanks in advance, Felix

Re: Record Punch Problem: Hear old take/Record new take
So nobody has seen this before?
Again, to put it more simple: I recorded over an existing region using quick punch, PT would go into record at the IN point BUT STILL PLAY BACK THE OLD REGION until I stopped. There's a new region recorded just as normal. When I tried the same IN point again, monitoring was OK.

Re: Record Punch Problem: Hear old take/Record new take
Hi there,
This bug has been around for some time, but I was pretty sure that it was fixed before 7.3. I'm quite disturbed that it has reappeared in 7.3.1-cs5. I've had the exact same behaviour that you describe, and maybe on 4 or 5 out of 100 punches. I would wait until you have some time, and do a clean uninstal and reinstall of 7.3.1, and update it up to cs5 and see if it reappears. The usual dumping of Digidesign Databases, Preferences, etc... would probably be in order as well. I know it sounds ridiculous, but there have been situations where an out-of-date plugin was causing all the weirdness. I would check to make sure you the latest of everything. Don't worry, you're not crazy. This bug has happened to lots of us! Cheers, eh? |

I've had this many times too, as recently as 7.3.1 cs3

Re: Record Punch Problem: Hear old take/Record new take
Thanks for your replies! It's good to hear I'm not alone with this sneaky bug. It makes you look like a complete fool in front of the talent and producer.
DIGI, is this a confirmed bug?
