Default Feeling stupid...can you guys help?

Someone brought me a Firewire/USB drive that has sessions on it that he wants me to edit.
I've never used an external drive on my system before. I chose to use the Firewire route and I plugged the drive into my Adaptec 4300 card.
The computer doesn't recognize the drive....
The device manager sees it and says the device is "working properly"...but I can't access it or see it in MyComputer.

The drive came from a studio that uses a Mac, but that shouldn't be an issue, should it?

Am I just ignorantly missing a step here? Am I supposed to mount the drive or is XP supposed to do that for me? I couldn't find anything in disc management except 'create new partition' which I know would destroy the data....right?

I need to start working on this on Monday and I told the client "no problem", so he dropped it off here today.

Feeling like a newbie,
Bill

Thanks!!

P4 3.0 Windows XP PTLE 6.4 Digi002R Adaptec 4300 card

You'll need MacDrive5 from www.mediafour.com (they have a demo).

The sessions would also have to have been saved on a Mac as Mac/PC compatible.

Thanks Rail...imagine the luck that you'd be online when I posted...!
If they (the Mac studio) have a new enough version of PT, the PC/Mac Compatability box would be checked by default, no?
I hope so.
If not, I could always get them to resave it with that box checked.
Thanks!

No, that option defaults to OFF (not selected). You'll get a message when you try and open the session if it needs to be resaved. A hint would be if the sound files are AIFF or WAV.. if there's no extension to the sound files.. you'll be taking a trip to the studio for sure.

No!
Apparently they DID check it. Got it working nicely. And I'll have to buy it, cause I'll be working on this for a few weeks.
Glad you were around, Rail. Thanks buddy!

It's well worth owning.

Glad it helped. In a future version of Pro Tools we should be able to open the sessions even if that option isn't checked (and you own MacDrive).
