Default Latency problem after upgrade

Hi,

I have just upgraded my PT from 12.5 til newest (2023.12). Latency have never been a problem for me - 64 bit usually works fine execpt for heavy MIDI instruments.

Now, after I bought the update, I can't even record a single mono audio track without clicks and pops and destroyed sound. 128 bit does not work either. 256 bit works, but makes it imposibble for me to record.

I am so frustrated - can't google or find other persons with simular problems.

Any ideas out there?

Best Regards
Michael

Hi Michael,

12.5 and 2023.12 have different system requirements. Can you give us more info on your computer's specs? RAM? Processor? System Type? Operating System and OS version? Screenshot of the error if available?

Thanks

Hi again,

Yes - I am investigation WHERE the problem starts (at which version).
Until now, I know that version 2023.6 doesn't detroy the sound, but the latency is still there, even though I choose 64 bit.
In version 2023.9 the crack sounds come in.

I am running Windows 11 Pro (newest).
Intel i7-14700
64 GB DDR 5 RAM
Old (but good) Digi 003 Rack

Hope that helps,

Best Regards
Michael

There is nothing that unusual about this type of problem. You will likely make fastest progress if you start by running standard troubleshooting steps. Described under "Help us help you" up the top of each DUC web page. Always start troubleshooting by trashing prefs, and always suspect plugins... a plugin incompatibility is sure a suspect here that you can quickly exclude or include by testing with all .aaxplugin files temporarily moved out of the plugin folder. Move those plugin files elsewhere as a test, even unused but installed plugins can cause all sorts of problems.

And doublecheck the PC is optimized, yes even if this only happens with some Pro Tools versions, you just want stuff as well set up as possible.

Make sure ignore errors is *not* checked, you want to be aware of all errors. Leave it unchecked.

BTW HW buffer sizes are in samples, so you are setting them to 64, 128, 256 samples (each sample is 16, 24 bits etc. depending on settings) not 64, 128, 256 bits.

Hi again,

It's been a while. 2024.3 is not available, and I tried to download it.
I have tried EVERYTHING. In version 2023.6 everything works perfect, but since then I cannot record anything.

It is not a latency problem. There are clicks and pops all the time.
Really frustrating. I have gone through each and every Troubleshooting guide. Nothing helps.

There must be other persons out there that have the same problem.

Well, you gotta think, 50 thousand professionals deliver content with this every day, without clicks or pops............so you've got a serious INTERNAL problem...i know it doesnt help, but its NOT a protools version problem....

If its clicks and pops , its a clocking issue..........

This is possible if there is another device connected to the 003 via digital(see why full system details is important). Otherwise, its back to a system issue and I would show System Usage and see if its hitting red when these pops happen. Darryl's advice is your best starting point
