Help needed in choosing Trak2 or AD8000SE with outboard mic pre\'s...
I was about to purchase a Trak2 for my Pro Tools Mix+ system but just came across a demo deal with full warranty that sounds awfully good. It's The AD-8000SE, One AmBUS Digi8 card, 8 channel SE DA and the IFC-8DA db25 to XLR breakout cable all for about 5k.
This deal sounds very appealing and is only about $1500 more the the trak2 will cost me with the digi8+ card and will give me 8 converters. The only problem is that I will have to use the control 24 mic pre's or invest in some other outboard pre's. I'm just looking for some advise as to whether this sounds like a deal worth pursuing of if there may be a better road to take. I have no digi interfaces or converters at this time and I'm really trying to make the right choice with no regrets as far as converters and mic pre's go. Thanks...Leon |

I haven't thought about the numbers at all, but, FWIW, the mic pres on the Trak II are excellent. Plus, if you're considering PT HD, you can forget about using the 8000 as a direct interface.

No Control 24 yet or anything for that matter aside from PT Mix+. Just awaiting the right decision. I'm swaying towards the AD8000SE and correct me if I am wrong but is the price I mentioned too good to be true? That's the AD-8000SE, One AmBUS Digi8 card, 8 channel SE DA and the IFC-8DA db25 to XLR breakout cable all for about 5k.

Re: Help needed in choosing Trak2 or AD8000SE with outboard mic pre\'s...
I love the trak2
If you already have the control 24 you might be better off with the ad 8000. The reason I say this is that the control 24 has no ins to PT and you need a converter to go between the two. I don't know how the mic pre are on the control 24 but I can vouch for the trak2 ... they are awesome. I guess what I'm saying is that it makes more sense to me to have an 8in 8 out box with the control 24 than a 2in 8out box. alot depends on how you will use the control 24. If it will be just a contoller with no analog signal going through then get the track 2. If you will route stuff like keys, drums etc then get the ad 8000. ej |
