Default DAE error 9161 and 9162

Hi,

My setup: G5/1.6, 1.25GB Ram, OSX 10.2.8(G5), ProTools HD2, i/o 192 with extra A/D card, ProTools 6.2r2.

After saving and closing a medium sized (24 track/1 DSP engine) session (Bombfactory, MCDSP, TCChorus, Sony Oxford EQ, Digi Delays, Reverb One, NI B3) and trying to open the session again, I get the spinning wheel followed by error 9161 or 9162. I cklick "ok" and try to open the same session again now I get error 6023 and ProTools quits without any other message.

Sometimes ProTools lets me open the same session but after finishing loading it tells me "not enough system resources" and most of the Plugins are deactivated.
Sometimes I don't get any error message instead ProTools just quits without any message. I also get error 6004.

DigiTest 6.1 basicly does the same thing, it quits without any message during testing the first (Hd core) card.

Anyone got the same errors?

I had a related problem, which was cured when I removed Norton from the system. My prob was a little bit more disk related though. Give it a go if you are running Norton.

Hi,

I don't run Norton. As a matter of fact only OSX 10.2.8, Roxio Toast 5.2.1, Roxio Jam and ProTools are installed on this machine. Nothing else.

Detlef,

Is this happening on one particular session or multiple sessions? If its only one session try importing session data into a new session and see if the problem persists.

Also, check try the following:

Try setting the sample rate and voices per DSP to the correct value for the session before you try to open the session.

Have you trashed prefs, etc already?

Does this seem to be related to any particular plug-in?

Hi,
it's happening to all sessions.

As I wrote in my original post, theese errors come even if I close and open the same session. So no change of dsp-engine, sample rate or bit depth.

Of course I have trashed my prefs a million time

I did more research, this is what I found out so far:
First setup:
I took all Plugins out of my Plugin folder except the Stereo Mixer Plugin.

I open a 64 Track-2 dsp-engine session which has 15 tracks, of course no Plugins. I switch from 64 Track-2 dsp-engine to 32 Track-2 dsp-engine. I click "ok". The session reopens. I press play and immediatly I get error 6004.

Second setup:

No Plugins except Stereo Mixer and EQ II.

I open a 64 Track-2 dsp-engine session which has 15 tracks, no Plugin inserted at this point. I insert one EQ II, open the Playback engine window but don't change anything, just click on "ok". At this point the session is still playing. I close and save the session. I open the session again but right away I get error 9162. (No hardware were found)

Sometimes I get other errors for the 6004 error, like error 6009 and 1127.
Somehow it seems all related to the playback engine window.

Any idea?

Did you ever swap out the flex cables or process cards?
Does the problem perists with only the core card installed?
This is starting to sound like a hardware issue.
If you continue to have problems we may want to have the cards checked out.

Also, it also almost seems like a heat issue. I know the G5s will overheat if you remove the clear plastic cover on the inside of the Aluminum door. So make sure that is in place.
But I believe you were having similiar issues in a G4.

Hi,
yes Mike, you are right, I had a persistant DAE error 6028 with my G4 and with ProTools running in higher (2, 3 and 4 dsp-engine mode). At this point I have changed the flex cable, the core and process card and the cable to my 192 interface. The only piece left to check would be the interface. Of course I did check the plastic cover.
Could it be the interface? All errors (6028, 9161+9162, 6004, 6009) say lost connection to hardware. Strange that it was error 6028 with my G4 and now the error moved to 9161/62 with my G5. What would you recommend at this point?

Regards, Detlef Brockmann

Wow...I'm sorry to say that but you are lucky. I'm fighting this for 6 months now and I'm getting really tired of it. I even got a new computer, hoping to get rid of these nasty errors. (Actually I'm very happy with my new G5 and someone paid me a lot of money for my Quicksilver G4 machine)
I guess the last thing to do is to change the interface. The problem is, at least here in Germany, that I have to send the interface to Digidesign in Ireland and wait at least 10 days o get a new one.

There must be other people with this problem...I wonder were they are.

Since everything else has been swapped out, it really looks like an interface issue. This is not a common problem so it is pointing towards a hardware failure. I would suggest you setup an RA to have the interface tested and repaired/replaced as needed.
