Default What do we change in Session Window to use Black Burst?

Hi guys!

We're going to sync to Black Burst for a project...what do we change in the Sessions window (or anywhere else) to accommodate that?

Thanks much!

I assume you are using a SyncI/O and running PT7.4 HD. If not, please share your setup.

Under Session Setup, open the "Sync Setup & Time Code Offsets" screen. Look for the "Clock Reference" and change it to "Video Reference".

Then, above that on "Clock Source" select Sync.

The Locked and Speed Cal lights should light green and yellow, respectively.

Again, I'm assuming you are feeding Black to the SyncI/O via the video reference spigot on the back.

Mario, thanks for the reply! Yes, we're using a Sync I/O with 7.4.x. When I get to the studio, I'll give that a try and report back. Thanks again so much!

The loop sync cables must also be in place between the SYNC I/O and the 192, and the 192 to the SYNC I/O, hence loop.

So it's BBG to the video ref input, BNC from the SYNCI/O loop out to the 192 loop in, another BNC cable from the 192 loop out to the SINC I/O loop in.

Then set the session set up.

Hey guys, this is our setup (we're still having some sync issues)...

Coming out of the black burst (horita box) were going into the video reference input on the sync i/o. The sync i/o is looped to our 192's and we've selected video reference as the clock reference in protools and SYNC as the clock source. We still can't manage to lock up. Any suggestions? Anything we might be missing here?

Could this be an issue with our black burst box or maybe even the sync i/o perhaps?

Are you not seeing a green "locked" light? Are you sure you've selected the proper video input? There are two video inputs on the SyncIO, and two selections in PT software. They have to match.

Do you have a terminator on the video ref output connector?

Define "lock up."

Yes, it could be, but the only way to determine if it is the SYNC I/O is to have everything else correct. The only way to determine if it is your black burst box is to use a waveform monitor.

Hey, thanks to all of you. As it turns out, we had a faulty Black Burst Generator. Fortunately, we realized we had a second unit in house and once we hooked that up per all of your suggestions, VOILA, sync and everyone is happy! Thanks so much, everyone...all's well that ends well, right?
