Default Odd Wafeform behavior in 7.4

So, I printed a mix yesterday and the waveform just looks weird to me. I did a search and saw a few threads pertaining to incorrect
waveform drawings, but couldn't tell if this was what everyone was referring to.

Hi,
as far as I can tell you from here, it's not looking like an incorrectly drawn waveform, but it looks like you have a DC offset in your audio, and some sections are clipped (maybe partially resulting from the offset).

It looks clipped but sounds fine. There's barely any compression on it at all. It's just dialog.

Does it correct itself if you 'recalculate waveform overviews'?

Nope. It doesn't, nor does it do anything if I apply the DC Offset removal.

I"ve had this happen, too. And also, I haven't found any significant answers.

In my cases, it seems to be related to the plug-ins. Particularly the Drawmer plugs. It's not DC offset, the original files are clean.

Since I stopped using certain plugs, I've not seen this in a while.

I disabled all plug-ins and no change other than lower levels.
I also did a bounce to disc and then imported it and it's the same thing.

I've seen similar things too, but I'm certain in my cases it was not a Pro Tools problem. Sometimes production dialog comes in that way (battery troubles) and I've even seen a VO guy whose voice looked like that every time! What's interesting about yours is that it is obviously not DC offset. Is the different waveform also a different recording? I'm guessing yes.

If it sounds good, so it is.

What is it doing in your scope??? When i have seen this happen it usually has to do with excessive information <10Hz. When viewed on a phase scope, the mono information will still be vertical, but the whole image will drift/pull pretty hard off center. The easiest way to check/fix this is to run an audiosuite high pass filter on it set to 16-20 Hz. (I use a Q2). that usually makes it go away.

Yes, the waveform changes when the pick ups come in. I think they were shot on a different day.

Randall

I initially had a high pass set at 40 Hz on it.
