ProTools 7.4.1 kills Spotlight/Finder searches.
This one seems quite interesting to me. I have built up two very nice new MacPro 8 core Intel machines. Heres the specs.
MacPro 10.5.1 (and 10.5.2 for test) ProTools v7.4.1 6GB RAM HD3 Accel PCIe 192 i/o ProControl + EP + FP M-Audio midi interface 2x2 The interesting part is in the searching of these systems. If I just run these systems without launching ProTools the Spotlight and Finder searches work very nicely and they are very speedy. When ProTools is up and running the Spotlight stops searching all together. Example: typing a word into the spotlight window brings up nothing at all... No roll down window, no "searching" statement... Nothing. The same happens in a normal finder window search. Funny thing is the workspace search in ProTools finds things very nicely. It just can't find my e-mails from John Doe last week. I have attempted quite a few things. Here's a list... Stopped indexing. Deleted all digibases. Cleared all caches. Deleted all prefs, digibases, DAE, setups, etc. Checked the install of the OS with the combo updater. and a few other things that I know aren't necessarily supported by Digidesign. Can anyone help me figure out how I can isolate this problem and possibly find a work around? Thanks in advance. wolfdavis

You know, I've been seeing weird stuff, too. I just thought the OS was broken. Sometimes the search will work, sometimes not. (More often not)

Re: ProTools 7.4.1 kills Spotlight/Finder searches.
That's intriguing. I only started seeing search problems in Leopard. I have 2 other systems running tiger and 7.4csx and they seem to search just fine. Are you sure that you aren't seeing the machine just having difficulty managing its permissions or cache files?
Thanks for the quick reply and info. wolfdavis

Re: ProTools 7.4.1 kills Spotlight/Finder searches.
Not necessarily 'being looked into' - more like a known issue, as we intentionally had to disable Spotlight to get Pro Tools working properly on Leopard (Spotlight indexing would cause interruption of Pro Tools, as would other MDS services..).
Unfortunately the 'fix' was late in the cycle and didn't make it into the Read Me. We're working with Apple to get this addressed so that we can reenable Spotlight for use with Pro Tools. |
