Odd Ringing? Help...
Hi All,
I am in the middle of my first mix on my 002 system. I will try to be brief but give enough info to convey how I got to where I am. I have a fairly simple song, since it is my first shot at mixing, and I created two different aux tracks for reverb, delay, etc... I bussed my snare to the first aux for some reverb (using the "DVerb" included with the 002). Next, I added some compression to my bass (Waves Ren.). My guitars, at this point, did not need anything (at least I could hear). So far, so good. Punchy drums and bass. Clean guitars. Then I started tweaking with vocals. I needed a bit of a longer verb for my voice, so I bussed my main vocal to the second aux, which has the same verb but a longer setting. Anyway, I started to notice a really odd ringing when I stop playback. It does not seem to do it during playback, but it is pronounced enough after stopping that the signal is showing up on all tracks which have some type of plug-in. I assume I have some weird effects loop going on, or maybe this is completely normal, but how do I fix it? Does it even need fixing when I record to two tracks? Thanks for helping an extremely green noob! |

Re: Odd Ringing? Help...
You're probably hearing the tail of the reverb compounded with the sudden stopping of audio; it's dragging out that last, uncomplete note, syllable, etc. If you're hearing what I think you are, it's normal. If your mix sounds OK, then no problem.

Re: Odd Ringing? Help...
You are proably hearing the artifacts that most software reverbs suffer from, especially when the wet sound fades out. You can do a comparison with an external hardware reverb and notice the difference. You can get a Lexicon or TC multifx very cheap these days and patch it up on the S/PDIF i/o, it will sound a lot better and save your CPU a lot of work. If you want to stay with softverbs you can rerduce/mask the problem using EQ, fades and more moderate use of reverb (sometimes you can get good results using delays instead), or you can go for upmarket and pricy softverbs.
