Panning a sound to create a fading effect

I want to pan a sound during a chorus. I tried to create an duplicate audio track and pan one to the left and the other to the right but it doesnt truly fade into the other head phone. Using control+F I could probably correct this. I was just wondering if there is a more professional way to go about doing this using PT.

I created a screenshot of my method which could be rather barbaric, I dunno you tell me. Is there an easier way to accomplish this task?.

why not just automate the panning on it, putting it all one one track, instead of using 2 tracks? make one track out of both of those by dragging the audio from one of them over to the other, and then switch your track view to "pan", and draw in your desired pan with the pencil tool.
