I can't watch spike TV at all. The compression on that channel is out of control.
3 years and 65 episodes later, Spike still wont listen. They deny compressing.
Its multiband compression, sucks all the mids out.
I'm actually thinking of starting a major campaign against them.

What show is it that you mix for them?

Yes Daniel Coleman at ANEFX does a great job on the Sound Design and both Mike Olman and Ken Kobett at Universal do an excellent job mixing it.
I am very impressed with their mixing work on Battlestar, 24 and Desperate Housewives.
It be cool to pick those guys brains. I've been put on as lead mixer this year for The L-Word and 2 other series thiis year, and I'd be interested to hear from some of you guys about workflow etc., and how you guys approach the mix down there.

MXC, I build the audio from the ground up, and it sound like total $#!+ on the air.
This year, I sent the new president (Doug Herzog) of SpikeTV a DVD of 4 shows to show him what its supposed to sound like!!!

Still waiting for an answer.

I've only watched desperate once! I swear. I wanted to see what all the hype was for.
As for 24, it's on in a half hour so i'm going to watch the season opener. As for Battlestar, we do a few of the M&E's so I know first hand how good it sounds!
DIAFXMX, call me next week for lunch.

I can't believe no one has mentioned LOST yet. Best show on TV. It's like Twin Peaks meets Fantasy Island. Aside from the addictive cliff-hanger suspense, the sound is great. Check out this MixOnline article here if you haven't already. A live orchestra score, tons of interesting sound design, and great dialog editing (lots of ADR because of the beach location) make LOST a sound for picture winner.
