Default The Most Stable Mac OS?

Hi All,

I have a G5 2.5(M9457)with 2.5gb of memory, running OS 10.4.3 and Pro Tools 7.0.

The system is running fine with the exception of an
occasional Hardware Buffer Size Error(Error-6086).

But ,I'd like to up grade the OS and go to 7.1 before I get left to far behind.
What is the most stable Mac OS to upgrade to from 10.4.3?

Thanks

10.4.8 was just qualified, and it works fine for me on several systems.

You should move up to 10.4.7. When Digi (and other software developers that you use prodcuts from) OK 10.4.8, move up to 10.4.8. Keep your OS up to date.

P.S. I just noticed that Digi have given the green light for OS X 10.4.8, so if your other app's support this version, you may as well jump straight up to the latest ver. which is a free upgrade for any OS X 10.4 owner via Apple's website.

What's so great about the 10.4.8 that you must upgrade? Is your 10.4.3 system somehow broken? You know -- if it ain't broken, don't fix it.

What’s New in this Version
The 10.4.8 Update is recommended for all users and includes general operating system fixes, as well as specific fixes for the following applications and technologies:

- connecting to wireless networks using the EAP-FAST protocol
- Apple USB modem reliability
- using OpenType fonts in Microsoft Word
- compatibility with 3rd party USB hubs
- scanner performance
- RAW camera support
- printing documents with Asian language names
- performance of the Translation widget
- broadband network performance
- security updates

10.4.3 is not broken, with the exception of the Hardware Buffer Error. I though with an upgrade to PT 7.1 and the updated Mac OS.It would possibly take care of that Hardware Buffer Size Error(Error-6086).It gets to be a pain when that message keeps popping up. Plus sometimes, not all the time when recording, the error message will pop up and actually stop the recording. Thats not good at all.

I also believe that too, "If It Ain't Broke, Don't Fix It" Thats why I'm checking into this before I do any upgrades. If doing any upgrades, won't solve that problem. I'll stay just as I am.

Also, I have Waves Platinum Bundle Ver 5.0 and checked Waves website for compatibility.
It seems, you can only go to Mac OS 10.4.6 for PPC and I see nothing that says PT 7.1 is supported.
I'm trying to contact Waves Support to find out.

Any Other Info On This Is Greatly Appreciated !

Thanks
Tom

Hi Tom, if you still have WUP valid, you should be running Waves 5.2 for Pro Tools 7. I have the Waves Platinum bundle, Pro Tools LE 7.1cs10 (fixes annoying problems such as consolidate session import function) and have just upgraded to OS X 10.4.8 and tested a heavy duty mix that I've just completed. My CPU is PPC Mac G5 2.0 GHz w/4.5GB RAM, and I use a 002R + Command 8. The session had 60+ tracks (1 stereo track = 2 mono tracks, thanks Digi), 8 plug-ins, including L2, RVerb, Tru Verb, C1, lots of sends, 5 stereo AUX channels, lots and lots of automation... After the 10.4.8 upgrade, the session didn't spike like it had done on opening (on the CPU meter). You should definitely upgrade to PT's 7.1, 10.4.8 and Waves Platinum ver 5.2. It is running like a charm for me here. I'm about to check DP 5.1 with it now, as well as Peak Pro 5.2. Good luck.

I think that old axiom doesn't apply to today's world. Especially when it comes to software. Just my opinion.
