Default Help with Dialog

Hey there,

I've been editing Dialog now for a few months, and am faced with inconsistent, low levels. I use the Waves Vocal rider, and a TC 6000 comp, and they work very well to establish a strong track.

My problem is with the PT "Gain" plug in. I use this a lot to tweek the low spots...but it is time consuming...and when the "Gain" plug is open, I can't use some of the most common quick key strokes...so I am constantly opening and closing that little bugger...

What are you all using to optimize dialog tracks?

Thank you for the advice!

Roger

How about normalizing the low level clips? I typically bus all dialogue to an aux with one or two trim plugin set to +12 and then ride the faders into the aux.

Usually have a Waves R-Comp on each DIA trk, and use it's 30dB make-up gain to bring things up into range.

I use Massey limiter L2007.

30db of gain and a clean limiter

you can shave off the transients before hitting you dialog compressor.

You could also use the toggle floating windows plugin to quickly hide/reveal your AS Gain: cntrl+opt+cmd+w
