Default DAE -50 w/PCI 324 input

I'm considering getting a Digi 001, but wanted to try PT Free first. I currenlty have a MOTU 2408/1224. When I try to run PT Free with the PCI 324 selected as IO in the osund control panel, it crashes with a DAE-50. If I just switch the io back to the internal mac using the sound control panel, it's all fine.

Is this something I can fix, or is it just not ever going to work?

I've got both a 001 and a 2401.
I've noticed that you have got to launch pro tools (or DAE, actually) before any application that uses any sound drivers such as PCI 324. Otherwise you get a DAE error that says that another program is using the DAE when you try to launch Pro Tools.

DAE 50 error here, I am running a PCI-324 and 2408mkII, but I have chosen
the internal sound(MAC AV) and it still gives me DAE 50, and will not boot at all?

Why should PT Free work with other professional hardware? wouldnt this be shooting themselves in the foot? PT's is the best, everyone knows this including digi that's why they give the software away and you are forced to buy their hardware. If they gavce away a ASIO compliant app that works with practically any hardware who would buy a digi001? I would rather have an 828 or a 2408 myself. As I have said charge 500-700 bucks for PT, give us back smpte, voices, and the improved MIDI along with ASIO support, drop the sound manager support and I will gladly pay twice the cost of performer cause I like to work. performer, cubase, and Logic are debacles.
