Re: testing accel card
Here is an error that shows up in different variations on digi test...
TDM II memory test audio ram dsp B failed. There are about 20 of them. Right now I have 5 sticks of ram installed. It worked fine the a process card but I'm wondering if I need to install another 512 of ram for the accel to work |

Re: testing accel card
Sorry to be the bad messenger but you are not supposed to run a PCI-X card in a PCI-E slot. You might brake both your computer and the accel card...That is the reason Magma is selling the PE6R4i chassi. It come with a PCI-E card that you insert in your computer, than you install the PCI-X card in the chassi.

Re: testing accel card
Thanks for the reply but I'm using the pcix card in a normal pci slot.
It worked fine with my process card |

Re: testing accel card
just tested the accel card by itself. Same error.
I tested the core by itself a while ago and it passed. My card must be toast. I think I can get a refund |

Re: testing accel card
Unlike the Mac Pro, many PC-compatible motherboards have both PCIe and PCI slots. There are two physical versions of the PCI slot, the other is the PCIx (the PCIe slots are not pin compatible, but the PCI and newer PCIx are pin compatible). But either PCI or PCIx slots may run at different speeds. And the motherboard BIOS and its overall design may not support Pro Tools, or all variations of the HD cards.
The G4 computers had the PCI slots, the G5s included PCIx slots, some running at 100, one at 133. The last year of G5 production, and all the recent Xeon based Mac Pro machines, have only the PCIe slots. However, in addition to the PCIe slots used in the Mac Pro machines, the Xeon processor's architecture also allows engineering PCIx and the slower PCI connections. And so do the AMD CPUs... A supported PC for Pro Tools is the Dell 690. It has two PCIe slots, the first used for video. It also has two PCIx slots, as well as an older PCI slot. I have an HD2 setup with the core in the PCIx slot farthest from the video (PCIe) slot. The Accel card is next to that, in between the Core and the PCIe video. There is an open PCI slot next to that, which Avid recommends for either the Process card, or the Accel card. So, yes, the Accel card does not require a 64 bit data path (as in the PCIx slots), and will function in a PCI slot using only a 32 bit data path. Many PC mobos have jumpers that will slow down their PCIx slots from 133MHz to 100 or even 66. And most PCIx slots are backward compatible, so they will accept a PCI card. Additionally, the design of the motherboard allows some slots to share system resources. The OPs motherboard has both types of slots. And his Accel card has the PCIx type connector, which will not physically fit into his mobo's PCIe slots. There have been several threads on the physical connectors of the Accel cards. The question was, "If the Accel cards do not use all the connectors, can you insert them in a normal PCI slot, which lacks the extra PCIx connectors?" The answer was, "Yes, works fine, because the extra PCIx connectors are only there for looks, possibly as a marketing gimmick to make them look as though they were taking advantage of the G5's faster peripheral slots, when, in fact, they were not." The issue in this thread is, "Why isn't the Accel card performing in a PCI, 33MHz slot?" And the answer could be that either the card is bad, or the motherboard is incompatible. The OP is correct in seeking out a friend to facillitate testing the card in a different, newer mobo, that supports either a faster PCI slot (i.e., 66MHz, instead of 33MHz), or a PCIx slot, in either 66, 100 or 133MHz. I have Nehalem Mac Pro, but bought the Dell 690 because the PCIe HD cards are still more expensive than the PCIx HD cards. I am holding out for an HDX card that works with a full 64 bit Pro Tools. For what HDX costs, I want rock solid, not pay Avid to be a beta tester.

I'm not an expert so I can't really help, other than to say avoid an "Iraq" conflict at all costs...
