Re: word clock
IS it fine to have the word clock at 44.1 if I'm working at 88.2?

Re: word clock
It depends on your hardware and which piece is the master clock. Some master clocks will send 96 or 88 and simultaneously send half speed word clock for peripherals that cannot accept higher clock rates. It should specify in your owner's manuals.
Some dedicated master clocks (such as a now archaic Aardvark) were available in two configurations, with the base model limited to 44.1 and 48..but also with an option to run at twice that speed. Unless you are ending up at 96 or 88, these higher clock speeds may needlessly complicate things. That is, if your end product is a CD, then 44.1 is the most you will end up with. If you are mixing for a DVD, then 96 is preferable. If you are hearing clicks and pops, or if the music is playing back too fast or too slow, you might have a clock issue.

Re: word clock
Thanks for the reply.
What I've noticed is plugins sound better at 88.2 compared to 44.1. that's why I prefer to record at 88.2 |

Re: word clock
IF I'm recording at 88.2 but my word clock is synced at 44.1 is it still recording at 88.2? Just want to make sure.
Thanks |

Re: word clock
I can say that if you record something at 44.1 and play it back at 48, it will be playing at the wrong speed and things will sound at a different pitch.
Consequently, if whatever you are doing with your hardware sounds right to you, that is a good thing. You might want to try to force your system to work incorrectly, just so you know your connections are valid. For my purposes, even though my hardware will record at 192, I keep using 44.1 or 48 and it suits me just fine. I do record in 24 bits, and then dither down to 16 before I burn CDs. If you are working with audio that was originally recorded at a very high rate, then you should keep it there. If your hardware has limitations, spend some money. The converter quality is worth it.

Re: word clock
I don't understand, are you using an external word clock? The 96 i/o and Aurora should be set the same as the session.

Re: word clock
When the 96 I/O is set to word clock at 44.1 it syncs and the 88.2 is lit up as well as the aurora indicates 88.2

Re: word clock
I have a PT8 setup with a 192 and 96, with the 192 as the master, synced with loop sync.
But I just created an 88.2 session --and opened "SETUP/hardware setup" -- to see what was available for the wordclock send out of the 96. I can select 44.1, 88.2 or TDIF. Don't use an Aurora, but if your Aurora is working correctly sending it a 44.1 clock, then the Aurora is just doubling the wordclock it is receiving from the 96. If your PT session is at 88.2, your should be able to change the wordclock output on the 96 from 44.1 to 88.2. I have other (non Avid) setups, that have setup selections for the wordclock send, to double or halve the signal.
