Default Protools 9 Volume Problem

I noticed after setting my levels in the mix window anytime I play the track the volume resends to the original place it was and does not allow me to change it as it will just keep going back. If I stop the track it will allow me to change it but once I hit play it goes back to resetting again? I believe maybe this is some type of automation or something?

thanks an advanced all the people who offer help it is greatly appreciate so please know that!

(anyone without something constructive or nice to say, please don't waste my time)

Have you made any automation fader moves? You don't just move the fader: you have to write the new level. See the Read, Touch, Latch commands on the channel strip? That writes the levels into the automation.

Just turn the automation to off instead of read and try if this is still happening.
If not there are some automation points set somewhere in the session.
Change the view from waveform to automation an delete them and you should be fine.

Just be sure to turn automation mode to read again, if you want to automate the track again.

All of them were set to auto read. I took your advice turned them off and after doing so it worked. I went to waveform and then right clicked on the track in edit window then cut all trim automation is that what you mean? also why does auto read set automation? I greatly thank you as that was buggin the $#@% out of me. I'm just curious to what they should be set too, off read etc?? thanks to all!

Chapter 45, page 1001 in the Reference Guide will explain things:

"Automation QuickStart
Pro Tools provides many options for recording, replacing, and editing automation data.
The basic steps for automation recording are:
• Enable the automation type that you want to record (volume, pan, mute, send level, send pan, send mute, or plug-in automation).
• Put the appropriate tracks in an automation writing mode (Write, Touch, or Latch, or a Trim mode).
• If you are automating a plug-in, enable the in- dividual plug-in controls to be automated.
• Automation Safe any plug-ins, outputs, or sends that have existing automation data that you want to protect from being overwritten.
• Begin playback to begin automation record- ing, and adjust controls as needed. Pro Tools remembers all moves performed on enabled controls."
