I down loaded OS 10.5.5 and I'm ready to down load PT 2020.5. Should I uninstall my older version of PT first? Theres no data or songs I want to keep. New to all this.

No olderr versions needed. Just run the 2020.5 installer and then the AIR plugins and so on and that is the steps to install.

I can't speak for Mac users, but Windows users should uninstall the old version(along with the HD driver if that option is shown) before installing a newer version. Some Windows users will likely be confused that PT shows up on the Apps & Features list, but can't be removed. The solution is one level deeper. Right-click on Start and select Apps & Features. Then in the upper right, under "Related settings" click on Programs and Features. On that list, Pro Tools can be selected(select "Change" and follow the prompts) and removed.
![]() The same goes for Eucon software. Always uninstall the old version before installing a newer version. Any settings you changed should remain in place.

A year ago, I did a clean install of Windows 10 Pro and PT 2019.6 on 2 rigs. Since then, I've installed each subsequent PT version release over-top of the previous version, without first uninstalling. Worked every time - no issues. I seem to recall it even remembers my prefs. I do run CCleaner reg cleaner each time. Actually I run CCleaner and also the CCleaner reg cleaner somewhat regularly. I guess I figured if AVID needed us to uninstall first they would've stated that in the install instructions. I dunno ... I'm just glad when it all works out!

And since the OP is on Mac not windows.... To make clear again... there is definitely no need to uninstall previous installs. macOS has a very nicely designed way that apps get packaged that makes this unneeded.

So to those answering PLEASE read the thread and OP posts before adding info not applicable to the questions i.e Mac vs PC - install vs unistall This just complicate things and adds confusion and makes threads way longer than they need to be. Thanks and have a great 4th for those who celebrate ![]()

I have about 5 or 6 previous versions installed (called for example. "Pro Tools 2020.3", "Pro Tools 2019.10" etc.), which is definitely overkill but doesn't seem to affect my system at all. Of course, since PT 2020, the workspace has changed and you need to update to the latest workspace version, so the older versions may not be totally compatible from now on. I always back up my preferences, and other files like the workspace database and catalogues, using Pete Gates PT Prefs application, before I install a new verrsion, just to be sure.
