Strike & Midi - Just bought it -More info
Been using P -tools for years. Never with Midi. Have 7.3 / WinXP / M-audio Audiophile 2496 card / M-audio Keystation 49. Works great with Reason. Using Mouse -plays fine. No start of pattern play with keyboard.
1. I see mention of a Quick -Start guide. Where is it? Followed a few threads in the DUC about the quick start guide -was not found. 2. Yes - have read the manual. Exactly HOW do you get a midi controller to work with Strike? No mention Anywhere. (in other words -no helpful steps that I can find ) 3. Yes -have seen the Digidesign Vid- It wonderfully maps out to the Strike keyboard. How? I know I am missing something simple and obvious, but what is it? More Info - I set it up in Peripherals / midi controllers???? The only choices are: None -no ability to set anything or: Hui or Motor mix If I set it up under Hui / Recieve from: KeyStation 49 / Send to: Strike 1 / Channels 8 - It gets the "unable to communicate with HUI / Power cycle Hui" message very shortly |

Go to Setup > MIDI > MIDI Studio.
This is where you'd create a MIDI instrument for your controller.

Re: Strike & Midi - Just bought it -More info
Thanks for the reply. Went there -setup new instrument 1 . (M-audio Keystation 49 was not on the list)
Set it for all 16 channels -mistake? Strike still does not respond to it. How, (if at all) is it set up in Peripherals? |

Re: Strike & Midi - Just bought it -More info
It should not be set up as a peripheral > MIDI controller. This is where you'd set up a Command|8 control surface for instance.
Setup > MIDI > MIDI Studio. Click create, and set up you controller keyboard. PS: I can't go into specifics because I use a Mac, and I might mislead you, if I haven't already. Read the "Getting started with..." guide for your system.

Re: Strike & Midi - Just bought it -More info
You do not need to set it up at all in MIDI studio. MIDI studio only allows you to rename the device.
The first thing you need to do is to install the windows drivers for the 49. Once the windows drivers have been installed and windows recognizes the 49 as a device, then so will Pro Tools. In protools, the only thing you need to do to use the 49 is to select "All" or the specific device as a MIDI input on your Instrument or MIDI track.

Re: Strike & Midi - Just bought it -More info
The 49 is a controller only. It's not an instrument. While you can set it up under MIDI Studio if you want to (by manually creating a name and selecting the ports and skipping the manufacturer/model selection), it is not necessary. As I've mentioned, the only benefit of doing so is being able to rename the I/O ports of the device. If you don't set it up in MIDI Studio, it will still function as MIDI I/O device; the I/O ports are still available. (as long as the device has been installed properly in the Operating system)
It is a little different/easier on the mac, yes.
