Video Timecode Issue, confirm I've crewed :)
Hey guys!
Working on an indy feature. Editor gives me a 25fps video and omfs. I edit and mix entire project in PT at 25fps (not realizing the framerate of the vid). Editor realizes afterwards he should have been in 23.976. He conforms his project in FCP7 to 23.976 with no problems on his end. Now he makes a few more edits before locking the film. Now he's sending me 23.976 video back which now doesn't sync with my pro tools session which I edited in 25fps. Can pro tools conform to this in any way? For example, can it adjust/stretch natively my 25fps session to 23.976? I can do a workaround, but it isn't pretty. Especially if he sells the film and more edits are required at that point. Can Pro Tools get me back on track with out redoing all of my work? Thanks for your time! Monty |

Audio can be stretched...
You can load the first video in VLC Player, VLC Player has a menu to show the Codec information. You can confirm what is the specifications of the original video file. But... Usually, ProTools is for Audio... Video first, then audio... Same when 35mm was manually. Editing audio first, gives all kinds of problems. |

Re: Video Timecode Issue, confirm I've crewed :)
There's nothing more to confirm, original is 25fps, the project has been moved to 23.976. And yeah, I completely agree. The director thought he was locked, I got the project, and now he's not locked... I have to work with the situation. And I'm sure a buyer may have editing demands as well. So just trying to make sure there's not a pro workaround. Thanks.

Looks like you have 2 issues; the cut has changed and you are at a different speed.
So, you need to adjust your speed first, then conform to the new edit. Create new session at the proper rate, import session data and SRC from 25 to 23.98, copy audio files. (4.1% rate change) kasper Last edited by Kasper; 02-13-2016 at 06:54 AM. |

Yes, John has it right, I should have clarified, 46.034 is the right sample rate for the conversion. You will probably want to correct the pitch after you are done, 4% is discernible. You want to correct the pitch only though, not the time, or you'll be back where you started kasper |
