Default PT 10 with New Mac (Mavericks) viable?

Sorry, I know there are a few variants of this thread already, but from what I can see my situation is a wee bit different.

I need to upgrade my computer -- not the OS, but but a new machine outright -- for which the only OS available is Mavericks. I also am not looking for a co-install with 11 since there is insufficient AAX compatibility for it to be of use at the moment, so I need to be on PT10.

Given that Mavericks doesn't support PT10, is it therefore impossible for me to create a viable PT10 system? Some say they have gotten it to work, but is it just a liability waiting to happen? Am I better off looking for a used mac w/ Mountain Lion? Any other options I'm overlooking?

Thanks!

Default Re: PT 10 with New Mac (Mavericks) viable?

Yes the last part for sure!

I would find a used 2010-2012 Mac Pro or a 2012-2013 iMac i7 without the Fusion drive as it has been a lot of issues.

Sufficient RAM and correct harddrives at 7200 rpm or more (WDC Black 7200 64MB Cache) and or SSD drives as they smoke.

Make sure that whatever tou buy it is up to par with running PT10 and for the future also able to run PT11. The Mavericks computers have been a hit and miss and even though some say they have them working I doubt they have them "Working" with large sessions and all the other gear needed in a studio so used Mac for sure. Too early for 10.9 and you want to have Avid support if you run Avid software right

Best
Chris
