CD TEXT--What is it, and where do I get it?
I put a new CD in my player and BAM...The CD title, and song titles appear.
What does this process involve? What programs can do this? Are they still Red book CD's? Thanks |

Re: CD TEXT--What is it, and where do I get it?
Audio CD's contain P, Q, R, S, T, U, V and W subcode tracks. The Text information you see displayed is written on one of these tracks but is not widly used in the industry. Therefore, I think these CD's still comply with the Red Book standard, but it is up to the CD player to recognize any data written to these tracks (most only recognized the P and Q subcodes).
-I do not know of any software which allows you to access subcode tracks other than P and Q. Brent |

Brent is right. CD text not widely used because most CD players do not acces that information.
However, CD Text is usually done @ the plant. It's not something that is widely available during the pre-mastering level. MasterJ |

I think Waveburner on the Mac and most of the PC applications now support CD-Text. Many new CD players do.
