Mystery in duplicating and importing audio files

It often happens like this: I want to use a part of a track from one session in another session. I duplicate it, rename it ( that I find it while importing). It immediately appears in the audio file list of the original session. BUT - when I open another session and look for the same file in the audio files of the other session, it often happens that IT IS NOT THERE ! I don´t understand why and it sometimes drives me crazy. Sometimes it is there and sometimes not ... What am I doing wrong ?

if you are importing a track from one session into another, why are you duplicating the track, just import it. Also, check to see if the sessions start times match. Could be that PT is wanting to put the audio you import way into no mans land

Im not sure why you cant find the file, but I an sure you are doing wrong.
IF you want to use a little bit of audio from another session you can do a few different things that are faster and easier than what you are doing.

Method 1) Like Zeek says, You dont have to duplicate anything, ever, to use it another session. IF you are importing a bit of an audio file that is its on file , then just go find it in the old session. Make sure it is a file and not a region you are looking for.

Method 2) Import the actuall track. By this I mean the entire edited playlist. Do this by choosing "Import track" from the file menu. This bring in an entire track, faders,plug-ins and all.

Method 3) When you are in the original session, the one that has the sound you want to use. Then select only the bit you want and make it a region by typing "command-E". Then go to the "Audio Bin" pop up window and select "export selected file.
It will ask you where you want to put the file. Put it wherever you will remeber it.

Ther are many ways to achieve the desired mission.
The best way to learn them is to read the manual.
