Default Need to replace MD3 TDM ...

Hi all,

I'm receiving my brand new HDX system tomorow.
Although I will keep my HD2 system for a month, I would like to find a replacement for the TC MD3 plug in which is TDM only, it won't work on the new system.

I'm usually using the MD3 in mastering sessions in which it helps getting "air" (specially with live recordings).

Any advice to find a replacement plug in which will work on HDX is welcome.

Thanks for your time.

Pascal

Hi,

I think you'll need to try the various native options out there and see which one floats your boat. There's no guarantee which will eventually be AAX..

Waves L316
PSP zenon
Ozone4
McDsp ML4 limiter. definitely will be AAX

Thank you Chris for the reply.

I have the ML4 in the chain but could never reproduce the "airy" sound of the MD3.
I'll have a look at what you propose ....

Try these:

Brainworx BX_XL already AAX and works fine in PT, although is very heavy on native system. Takes about 40% CPU.

Sonnox Limiter. Sonnox in progress of updating their all plugins to AAX format.

Massey L2007. This is my first choice although I don't know if it will work as AAX. Massey should announce it later on this year.

McDSP ML4 for me it's more a multiband compressor than limiter

Out of curiosity, did you try a new Avid Channel Strip?
It actually is very good in preserving air and natural feel.

+1 for BX-XL (brings out soundscape very well, but wouldn't say it's "airy" as MD3)

I don't have PT 10 now as my system is arriving these days (I'm on PT 8 for now), I'll give te new channel strip a try to keep air in the mix.

I've been looking at the BX-XL, maybe it's time for me to try it.

Can't wait to receive the new system and try your suggestions.

Thank you very much for your time.

This reminds me of the situation that TC never ported Master X 5 Band to HD World. But later introduced the much better MD3 Suite.

Certainly they have something better to release under the curtains.

Yes and no.
I do agree that all TC plugins are very good indeed.

TC clearly made a statement that they have no planes to port their plugins to AAX.

What a verdict?

That´s really bad news, where can I read that statement ?
