Default Pro Tools on Imac Snow Leopard

Hi guys,

I'm confused and was wondering if any of you could help me. I've read the page that details my mac's compatibility with Pro Tools but it's so confusing. It says that I need Pro Tools 8.1 but it's only available for download if you have 8.0, which I understand isn't compatible with my Mac OS X? I am using Snow Leopard 10.6.3 and just want to know what version of Pro Tools I should buy.

Thanks.

When you purchase an AVID PTLE system it may or may not have the latest software with it. That being said you should always check the AVID website for the latest information and updates, which will provide you with the latest software. You need to be registered and register your purchase, that way you can and will be able to download and install the appropriate version of software that you need.

Version 8 is the version you should buy. Once you buy that you will be able to downlaod the latest version of 8.

Is that Pro Tools 8.0? Will I have to install it on my mac and then download 8.1?

I belive you will install 8.0.3 first as 8.0.1 isn't a full installer. 8.0.3 is a full installer after which you would install the 8.0.4 update. Someone may correct me if I am wrong.

If you are buying the disc version in the store (or if it comes with a PT system that you buy), you will be able to install the disc, then download the latest update from the website, which is 8.0.4 for LE.

O.K so buy Pro Tools 8.0.3 full version then upgrade to 8.0.4, which is the latest version, got it. Any additional software or equipment I require? I have an Alesis audio interface which works like a charm with Logic 9 but that's it.

I bought PT LE 8.01 that came with the 003 Factory bundle. Installed on a 2006 intel iMac core duo (not Core 2 Duo) running at 2.0MHz with 2g RAM. It runs fine. It self-updated after installation, but I think this was an update for drivers/patches as the version stayed at 8.0.1. I had to manually download the installer for PTLE 8.0.4 from the Avid website -- get comfy because it takes forever (I'm on DSL at 3MB download speed). I went straight from 8.0.1 to 8.0.4 with no issues.

System runs great, but I'm not taxing it at any level (less than 12 tracks on any session so far, minimal plug-ins -- dynamics and eq mostly).

Do you have an interface for Pro Tools i.e an Mbox,003 etc. ? Pro Tools will not work without one.

No, I don't! But will purchase that if required. What is better MBox 2 or Digi Design 003?

Thank you so much guys for all your help so far, it's been much appreciated.
