Default What's with the MP3 option?

Have a recently installed version of PT LE 8 and so today installed the MP3 option that came with the install disk.
Found the MP3 option in the Codecs folder in the Digidesign folder and dragged it into the Plug-ins folder, restarted the computer and still get the "MP3 option not working" message...
Am I missing something here? Shouldn't it be enabled if it's properly installed and in the plug-ins folder?

Try installing MP3 Option for Pro Tools 8 from the dowload installer:
www.digidesign.com/support/mp3

Or from the installer on the Pro Tools 8 DVD. As the page linked above says, the install location is not your plug-ins folder, so you should delete the file you put in your plug-ins folder.

OK, I installed from my Disk and got the prompt to authorize the MP3 option and it asks for iLok or authorization # of which I have neither...
Is there somewhere on my installation disk with an authorization code?

The MP3 is $20 then you have to put it on your iLock.

I still don't know why they make you pay for it.

Something doesn't make sense to me, the installer comes with PT 8 so why does it take you to the digi store? Yopu install it then have to go buy it, is that right?
It installed succesfully on my computer but I don't have an authorization number to activate it.

You should use LAME MP3 Encoder instead there the only ones with 320 kbps insane presets, the industry standard ::: if only pro tools would install lame mp3 encoder instead !!! LAME Encoder is free and it's for the technically minded, but you need to pay for the PT MP3 Option::: if the digi mp3 export option used LAME, I'd be in heaven then they wouldnt have to pay Fraunhoffer for the codec licensing and could include it for free, but alas....

No thanks... have MP3 on Logic Express and can use iTunes.
When I was on PT 6 I could kinda understand no MP3 option but PT 8? unbelievable really.

Although I agree with your opinion about the MP3 option being a separate purchase, it is clearly documented and you should have read that before buying Protools. There was not attempt to hide this silly additional purchase. You may want to get the iLok anyways for future plugin purchases that need it.

Maybe you should look at it from another angle. Not everyone will use the MP3 option in the same way that not everyone will use other options. I use digitranslator, it cost nearly $500. If you have no use for digitranslator how would you feel if they included it anyway and PT was a few hundred dollars more?
