My experience has been that intermittent USB and firewire/1394 cables are utterly counterintuitive and, unfortunately, utterly common brand new right out of the bag.

mine too, however i have seen a differant cable or port work wonders. could be a faulty cable or faulty port ect... its easy to try, so why not.

no, that "shouldn't" make any difference. If you decide to go Ultimate anyway, then all you need to do is buy an Authorization code for Ultimate, go to System where it says change Key, and enter the new auth. You can buy them from Microsoft and eBay, just be sure if you have OEM to buy an OEM key, and if you have Retail to get a Retail key. But there is no reason I am aware of at this point to switch, unless you want to be able to use more Ram (Home is limited to 16GB, Pro and Ultimate go up to 192GB) or want Bit locker and a few other options.

Update went well. Clean audio when set as a output device. Everything is stable and I can multi task once more. NO PLAYBACK ERRORS. Laptop works like a beast while mobile. Haven't tried Reaper yet(ASIO drivers caused a crash now and then). No CPU spiking either. I have not had to reinstall windows since January. Now have automated backups for online going great. I just need ADC now, in which Reaper is my best friend. I already made back the money AVID cost me too. All is well, carry on.

Hi,

Be warned about this update, here is what happened to me on my XP machine PT LE with the Digi 002:

I could only choose from 1024 Buffer size because of 8.0.4..PT LE installation under SETUP--->Playback Engine
Also my I/O settings were not ok, I could not change the clock source anymore... under SETUP--> Hardware

For me totally unworkable: I went back to 8.0 and then 8.0.3... Everything is fine again now..

Did you trash preferences after the update? It really is (or should be) a requirement with any Pro Tools update.

Yes I did everything by the book....Did put my Prefs down the drain, did not help...

By the way, I think it is rediculous that you loose your prefs with every update...
