Default Dual 1ghz Quicksilvers at Powermax.com

These appear to be quite the popular machines, check 'em out, these are quicksilver models according to them.

http://www.powermax.com/cgi-global/g...urb+G4+Systems

They also have MDD models and some 933 mhz.
Refurbed but with 1 year warranty.

I know lots of folks are looking for these, so thought I would post about their availability.

I have no affiliation with Powermax at all.

ATTTENTION:
www.MacMall.com has Powerlogix 1GHz processor upgrades for G4 machines for $489!!!! Talk to Tim, punch in ext. 4657, he knows about Pro Tools. This is not a PCI card, it is a processor replacement (took me 5 min). I just upgraded my G4 400 with that card and another 512 M of RAM for $569.99 for both, and shipping overnite was less than $20 FedEx. If you are considering upgrading, this is the way to go, and now is the time. If you buy a new 1 GHz mac, you don't get OS 9, and all my plug ins are for OS 9. So, I now have a lot more plug-ins running, and 32 tracks on the beta 5.2.1. Killer!

that sounds great, sean. can you give us any info on how difficult it would be to install the processor upgrade for someone who has rarely looked inside a computer case, as well as what kind of performance increase your seeing? i've got a G4 400 as well and need to start considering options...

thanks!

Sean:

I also have a G4 400. Are you planning
to upgrade to PT6/OSX? I would like to
hear how that is going if anyone has done
it with this upgrade.

thanks,

Can a single 867mhz Quicksilver be upgraded to a dual processor?

James-
I do have OS X as well as OS 9.2.2 installed, and both love the upgrade. As far as PT 6 is concerned, we'll see. I have just about every plug in known to man running flawlessly on OS 9, as well as 32 tracks, and I rarely use more than 10 MIDI tracks at a time, since I record mostly audio (bands, etc.). The benefits of PT 6 for me are.............???? I don't know, I may upgrade just to have the option on OS X. Let me know how you like 6.0 if you go that route.

I would like to upgrade to a dual 1ghz processor on a mac G4 533 mhz. Will this work well with 001 and OS 9 ?
I would like the dual for other programs and for pro tools 6.0 someday. I too, have a lot of plugins for OS 9.

Sean:

Glad to hear everything is working flawlessly.
I think that price is good. I'm gonna check some video forums and see if they have issues with that
processor.
