Do I need to remove it.

Ordering a new G4 800 that comes witha bunch of stuff installed already----I new to the mac side and on a PC I had to remove the sound card and all software associated with it to run ptle--But do I need to remove similar stuff on the mac---to run ptle and the video card says its a radeon 7500 Dual---so can I run two monitors off this card---Sorry if these questions have been posted before but need to know---You should at least give me credit for moving to the mac side-----Oh yah and should I get a external second drive that uses fireware---does anybody use these to swap the drives.

Hey there, welcome to the light.

You don't need to remove anything off the drive whatsoever. You'll find that the way the mac system works is a lot different (and easier) than the PC side when it comes to drivers and other hardware. Just plug in your PTLE hardware, install the software (follow the directions in the manual!) and you're good to go. Oh yeah, make sure you're booting into OS 9, it will probably come pre-configured to boot into OSX, but ProTools doesn't run on OSX yet. If you go to the system control panel and select 'startup disk', you will have the option of rebooting into the OS9 environment.

As far as running two monitors off that particular video card is concerned, you can only do this if you are running an ADC apple flat panel display and a VGA monitor. You can't run two VGA's off this card, you'll have to get an extra PCI video card to do that.

The Radeon 7500 and GeForce4 MX cards can drive an ADC based Apple flat panel as well as any device with a VGA connector by simply attaching both monitors.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">In regards to the external drive, you can either go the firewire route or just buy another internal hard drive - your mac has room for another one. If you use the search function on this forum, you'll find loads of information on both those options and you can make your own choice based on your needs.
