Playback/Recording stopping immediately

Hopefully this problem isn't too complicated, but I can't seem to rectify it...

I am using pro tools 7.0 on an iBook G4. I have been recording and editing with it for about 6 months no problems. I just set up a MIDI controller for the first time and when I tried to record it would stop immediately. So I went to edit some other sessions and I am unable to playback or record ANYTHING. When I press play it immediately stops (on the transport bar it says "pause" very quickly before stopping). The same happens when I try to record.

Can anyone help with this problem? Thank you!

I too have this problem.. Seems to be random.. When I hit play or record, the Play and Stop buttons in the transport light up briefly then nothing happens.. If I quit PT, and then open the session back up, it works fine...

I'm using:
PT LE V 7.1, Mac OS 10.4.8, Dual 2.3 GHz PowerPC G5, 2.5 GB RAM

I had this problem too. I can be working fine for an hour or so and then suddenly I can't play. Started for the first time last week. I've been using this setup for a few months now. Closing/reopening session didn't work. Changing the DAE playback buffer size to 4 from 2 got it working again. I switched it back to 2 and it's working again so far...

Anybody else see this or have solutions/know why it does this?

I have seen this here as well. In my case it seemed tied to haing ProTools running for a while. Pressing play illuminated both Stop and Play and then both turn off. I managed to briefly fix the problem by returning to the start of the session, but that wasn't a consistent fix.

What make/model midi controller? There have been some known conflicts with certain midiman/midisport drivers. Have you tried downloading a new driver for the midi device?

Other than a software conflict perhaps you have PT set to wait for midi note?

I have had the same problem and restarting protools is the only fix I have found. Kind of annoying when you are in the groove. I always assumed I had hit some key combination to put it into this mode, but since there's no way to tell these things easily, a restart seems to fix it.

There is a button on the transport box that looks like a clock, I think. I believe that if that is enabled the transport is waiting to be triggered by a synched midi source.

What 'known conflicts' are you referring to, exactly?

As for the initial problem - we're looking into this and think we have a good idea of the cause. I'll post more info as it becomes available.

Did digi post a fix for this? I thought I left the problem by switching back to a Mac, but I now have the same issue... Press Play (or spacebar), Stop Button flashes almost at the same time. Same thing with Record. Only sure fire work around i've found is a quick double click with the mouse... well almost sure fire.
