here is what I heard from Avid

Not really a concern. Chip allocation forces certain products to go away over time.
There are no issues with support, compatibility or functionality for existing customers that have HDNTB already going forward.

Not too worried about this news. HD Native never really worked. Problem child since its infancy. Guess they're happy to let this 'enfant terrible' die a silent but sudden death. They finally found their way out.

Watchu Talkin' about jeeves? It has worked great for me.

But I've mostly used it on Windows, so I guess I can understand how Mac users might see otherwise.

The Sync HD was EOL on 3/31/2021. It's be discontinued for a while now. ("support" end 2026; 5 years after EOL as usual for audio hardware)

The SyncX is current and will continue.

The big problem besides Sync is MTRX / MTRX Studio. They already discontinued the HD Native PCIe. So now they're selling very current interfaces with no way to "interface" them besides the very outdated HDX???

Please tell me I'm missing something. Or that they're finally going to offer a fully native USB or Thunderbolt path for these.

I think Carbon is the new direction. Audio over ethernet and from what I hear it's very good. I just ordered a Mac Studio with the M1 Ultra. If I get 5 more years out of my Omni and the thunderbolt chassis, I'm happy. I've had it since 2013 with never a problem. They have to keep moving forward...

The Carbon is terrible. Bug ridden.

If the HDX is outdated then the HDN (in all forms) would be worse. It would be the cut down version of an outdated card by your standard.
The MTRX units can operate independently of digilink (Dante being the obvious connection.) But, if you can afford an HDX card, then the additional cost for a thunderbolt chassis is minimal.

Yep, and if you have all Dante then you don’t need any other form of sync.

As far as I am aware, the only way to achieve video edge frame sync with tri-level lock is through a Sync HD or Sync X. Both rely on the same cable and RS422 protocol that 1990s Macintosh computers and printers used, and the 8-pin serial ports on HDN and HDX cards...

HDX and HDN are both very dated. I only keep using HDN because it is the cheapest way to access sync peripherals. As soon as that wraps up, it is bye bye Avid hardware for me. Stuff like the new DAD AX64 is just so much more feature rich.

It does feels like something is missing now in the Pro Tools product line up. Perhaps a TB expansion card for MTRX interfaces. Perhaps a new interface of some kind. Perhaps software changes that offer more flexibility with Tri-level sync... In any case, the price of a new Pro Tools system with edge frame sync just went up $5000.
