Default Does PT 7.4 Elastic Audio feature make VocAlign obselete?

I'm curious to know if 7.4 provides the same functionality as VocAlign Pro (time aligning vocals and harmonies to one another to make them super-tight). I've watched some of the videos on the Digi website but can't get a definitive answer....anyone?

Hi,

as much I like the new Elastic Audio features I'd say no.
There's no way you could do, for example, ADR as easy and fast as with VocALign.
For a few tightening of vocal takes, yes, you wouldn't need VocALign, in fact Elastic Audio would work faster in most such scenarios since you need a Guide to work from in VocALign.
But on the whole, no, they don't even compete.
See them as two different tools for different tasks.

It´s not the same functionality exactly, because Vocalign does it automatically, but yes, you can do
exact alignement with EA, probably with better sonic results.

I use both now, EA for the more "important" vocal tracks and Vocalign for the choir harmonies that stay in
the background anyway.
I will probably become a lot faster with EA once I´ve used it more, but still Vocalign is really comfortable.

Also since there doesn't seem to be any transition smoothing with EA it gets very tricky to make smooth changes unless they are extremely small ones inside a region. THe playback jumps at the marker point to whatever the new setting is. Vocalign may work the same way but it is using a lot more markers than I want to drop so it sounds smooth.

I'd say at this point EA doesn't replace VocAlign yet. But now that EA es already implemented it's a few updates away from completely elmininating a need for VocAlign. Thats if Digi decides (and I hope so) it's one of important things to work on from their long to-do list. For syncing vocals it seems, besides transient analisys there's a need for gain and, possibly, pitch change analysis to get the perfect syncronisation on vocals. With EA technology already in place this could be an easy update. I wouldn't mind paying for an upgrade with a feature like this, especially after looking at the price of VocAlign Pro.

Not really Voc Align, with its ability to take snapshots of vocals is a bit more specific.
