Default replacing CPU question

I'm replacing an A64 3200 with a dual core 4200. The think is they don't seem to be selling them with fans - can I use my existing fan with the new CPU?

Cheers, Scott

If it fits in the same socket you should be fine....Since the new processor might run hotter I would keep a close eye on the temps for awhile though. A high performance aftermarket cooler might a option too.

I have the same chip, amd 64 4200 mhz X2. They run hotter that the regular amd 64. If you buy an OEM it doesn't come with the fan, if you get retail it does. Now, the amd stock fan for a cpu like this is about $10.00. But it is a noise factory. Get yourself a nice silent fan.

Cheers guys.

This must be an OEM sell-out or something. So to clarify - yes to reusing the current fan (A64 3200 stock)but watch heat, but recomend a better quieter fan. I was looking at the thermaltake TMG A2 or A3 as simple changover/well priced options (Asus A8V Mobo)????

I'm happy with my Thermaltake TMG A3. It works great and it's quiet.
