Default compressor recomendations

hello guys
Im on the market for a high end compressor
I already have an SSL E series buss compresor, so Im more interested
in something i can use for individual tracks, rather than stereo

Any way, Im thinking of the Tube tech CL 2A
or the neve 33609JD Stereo Compressor

does anybody would care to share their thoughts?

Thanks a lot

I have the CL1B as well. You can't go wring with that.

I'm a big fan of the 33609...
However, what TYPES of tracks will you be using it on? That's
going to make a lot bigger difference in which comp to invest in IMO...

I am totally hooked on the Manley SLAM. It is a souped up version of old black face 1176... only a whole lot better.

It has two independent channel with each two different limiters which can be use separately or chained. As a bonus it also features two Mic Preamps ultra high standard.

This piece of Machinery is the best I have ever used.

Awesome on vocals and any dynamic instruments.

I know this might sound funny but besides the SLAM my favorite compressor analog and digital is the C1 from waves. It will give you exactly what you would come to expect from the terminology "Compression" only you have got to know what you wanna hear before you insert it.

Good Luck

I was about to suggest one of my favs, - the Chandler TG1, - might be something for you to look at.
Love the sound of that unit myself

Cheers

P.A.M.'s idea of the TG1 is a great suggestion. Ballsy, warm, etc...
See if you can get hold of one to demo.

Personally, I'd go for a 2254/E over the 33609 if I'm looking for the more "old-school" warmth for those tracks (read "vintage Abbey Road sound"). They're some serious scratch, but they sound great. They're also available as mono units, FYI...

and, as always, this is just my opinion...
