Audigy has caused problems for some people, I'd try without it, and verify that the hard drive is running in a fast DMA mode.

my hard drive is in ultra DMA 2 - ultra33.

still no luck with any suggestions thus far. thanks alot for helping out.

do you think that might be the cause?
cause when in pro tools, CPU Usage in task manager never goes past 25% while cpu usage indicated on the system info inside protools rarely moves more than a few pixels.

OK, it seems as your HD is slaved to an optical drive . They usually have speeds of UDMA2/ATA 33.
Too slow for PT audio recording.
Tell us ;
-what HD is it
-how is it connected to the MOBOs drive controller
-how is it jumpered

some one will help you along..

wow, it is i think. i know a good deal more about computers now than when i put mine together, so ill try fixing that sometime very soon. maybe tonight. i believe that might be it, but I'll get back to you when i get a chance to rewire some stuff. thanks alot.
