Default Direct sound in one session/no direct in another?

Hi all

Firstly let me apologize if this is (a) In the wrong forum and (b) a really stupid question.

I am currently three days into my exposure to pro tools, and so far blown away by what it can seemingly achieve, I am learning as fast as my head can cope but there is one thing I simply cannot seem to work out.

I am using Pro Tools 8, WinXP Platform, there is no issues with the software or the installation, I am guessing I have a settings question.

On some sessions I need to enable record to hear my D/I guitar on its respective track, i.e select record enable on rhythm guitar track to hear it. If any record enable button is deselected there is silence or no input signal registering so if I strum the guitar no sound is produced.
Yet on one of other sessions I do not have to do anything, I can simply load the session and hear the guitar without enable record selected on anything. Almost as if the Mbox is bypassing the protools session, but I know it isn't because I can use the Master fader to manipulate the volume.

I have searched high an low switching settings on and off on both templates but for the life of me I simply cannot see where it is.

Once again please forgive me if my inexperience has caused any vagueness. And I am betting my shirt that I will certainly kick myself awhen I find out out how simple the answer probably is.

Indeed it is the wrong forum, as you are in the Mac part!

Check the routing in the different sessions. If the plugin is on an AUX track, you should hear it without doing anything (besides playing). If it is on an audio track you need to record enable to hear your guitar.
