TC Powercore with FXpansion and PT 6.4
Before I drop several hundred dollars on a TC Electronic Powercore Compact, can anyone tell me (Angus, perhaps?) what level of success I'll have using the Powercore Compact through the FXpansion wrapper? I have an older version of the wrapper (1.06 I believe) and am unsure if I'd need a newer version or if a newer version will even work with PT 6.4. Will the wrapped plugins still work seamlessly with the hardware?
Also, the bottom line is that I'm looking for some dedicated, outboard effects processing. If anyone has any other ideas, please contribute. Thanks for the time. Pete |

Re: TC Powercore with FXpansion and PT 6.4
1.06 is the last version of the wrapper that will work for 6.4
Lots of discussion about the Powercore units on the FXPansion forums; you might have better luck getting answers there. (I think there may be issues with anything less than the latest version of the wrapper). IMHO, you should just save your money and build the Quad-Core PC; then you won't need external (it's not really outboard; there's a difference) processing at all.

Re: TC Powercore with FXpansion and PT 6.4
Good info, thanks for the response.
I'll check on the FXpansion forums as you suggested. Following up on the Quad Core: How pricey are we talking? Does the Quad Core require 4 PCI slots, assuming it's all add-in? Is there any noise associated with internal processing such as this? Thanks in advance, SPK. Pete |

Re: TC Powercore with FXpansion and PT 6.4
The Quad Core I'm referring to is the "Quadzilla" computer that is detailed in the Quadzilla thread. It would be a replacement for your current PC. It eliminates the need for external processing and/or processing cards.
Current price point is about $1500 for a complete system.

Shawn,
" It eliminates the need for external processing and/or processing cards. " Now, that's a bold statement a

Re: TC Powercore with FXpansion and PT 6.4
I didn't say it eliminated the need for outboard processing, I said external processing and/or processing cards. There's a big difference (in my mind, anyway) between outboard processing and external processing. External processing would be the Waves APA, the Powercore, the Receptor, at al.
Outboard would be the real hardware that you have to actually output audio to; LA-2A, 1176, Manley (anything), Folcrum summing device, etc etc etc Loads of need left for those...

Re: TC Powercore with FXpansion and PT 6.4
Quote:
I have Powercore Element and I've been using it with my digi001/PTLe 6.4 (with wrapper v. 1.05). All TC Plugins sound great but they use CPU power very much. For example Megareverb uses more CPU than Rverb. So using Powercore doesn't really free up processing power to my CPU. Now I'm upgrading my system to 002R/PTle 7.1/wrapper v.2 and I hope that I get my powercore working in PT like it should work. -Sabbrodo- |
