Default Why can\'t the 002 be a controller also?

Yo Digi, so I am a little hacked that this Controller 8 can act as a mini controller for any PT system. I have wished the 002 could do this ever since I got it. It would be nice if I was away from my system to go plug in to someone elses (especially a TDM) and just use it as a controller. What gives? Will you implement the 002 as just a controller at some point? If no, why not?

It would take some doing, since the 002 doesn't use MIDI to send controller info. So, at the very least, it would require:
- new firmware to set it up as a controller over MIDI
OR
- client software to connect to the 002 over firewire, and present itself to ProTools as a MIDI interface with a controller connected.

If I were Digidesign, I wouldn't bother.

I disagree, its pretty frustrating to use Logic or Reason(not rewired) and have the 002 turn into a big plastic soundcard. I find it hard to believe it would really be that difficult to bring the features of the 002 in line with Command8.

I have to agree with rezn here. If they can do it over USB why can they not do it over firewire?
