Default Re: Best Laptops for PTLE

Hi All,

I found a HP nc8430 second hand for 900euro.
But I don't know if this can work with my Digi 003rack and ProTools 7.4 on XP SP2 or or later on Vista. Has anyone use this LapTop with 002r or 003r on PT 7.3, 7.4?
This is the only info about this LapTop at Digidesign web-page.

Thank you in advance.

I'm gonna be running PTLE 7.4 on a Digi 002.

does anyone know if this would work?:

HP Pavilion DV2828CA 14.1" Intel Core 2 Duo T5550 1.83GHz Laptop
Hard Drive Speed/Capacity 250GB 5400RPM SATA
RAM 3GB DDR2 (Exp. To 4GB)

Get a MacBook or MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo Intel. You can run either Windows or OSX with them and compatibility is guaranteed with PTLE. Besides that when you decide to sell it in a couple of years, it will actually have a good street value.

Default New XP / Vista laptops with Digi 002/003?

Has anyone managed to get recent versions of PTLE 7.4 XP / Vista working with newer laptops? If so how much much more processing power did you get?

I'm still using my 3 1/2 year old Acer Aspire 17" 1800 P4M (ATI Mobilty Radeon 64MB graphics, 60G internal, external 80G 7200 HD Firewire / Texas instruments 1394) for PTLE 7.1 & was wondering if I should upgrade?

Asus Travelmate 5720G has the Texas 1394 Firewire chipset & ATI® Mobility™ Radeon® HD X2400 XT 256MB VRAM so could be a candidate ?

Also know that there are some new Toshibas & HP's available with the Texas firewire chipset & Acer Travelmates (Not new Aspires!)

Would be great if Digi could test & recommend some new modern laptops for compatibilty?

Hello,

I want to get an mbox2 pro. I've also been wanting to purchase a laptop. Let me first be frank by saying DIGIDESIGN'S LAPTOP COMPATIBILITY PAGE SUCKS. WHY HAVEN'T THEY TESTED NEW/VARIOUS WINDOWS LAPTOPS BY NOW?... OH WAIT...
<sarcasm>THE ANSWER IS TO JUST GET A MAC.</sarcasm>

Now that I've vented I'm wondering what luck people have had with HP's? I've read from this and another thread that some have had success though firewire seems to be a prob for some. You having that experience? I'm specifically looking at HP Pavilion dv9700t. Processor is Core 2 Duo Processor andcan be on of these...
T5750 (2.0GHz),
T8100 (2.10GHz), T8300 (2.40GHz), T9300 (2.50GHz), T9500 (2.60GHz).

I have seen earlier posts in this (and the other) thread about earlier "dv" models working. I don't think I've seen any specifics from Digidesign saying these do/don't work but I could be wrong. Would HP Pavilion dv9700t work well with mbox2 pro? Sorry if I didn't see an obvious post that answered my questions... and thanks in advance!

I currently own a HP DV5t p8600 2.4 C2D with 4 GB Ram, but a 5400rpm drive. It is running Vista. I can record a little bit, but only with all buffers maxed out, and it cuts out after about 5-10 minutes. I get a strange "CPU process conflict" or something. If I upgrade my hard drive, will that solve the problem? Or do I need to downgrade to XP?

Anybody bought a multi core laptop running pro tools 7.4 successfully with quite a few plugins going (superior 2.0, ez drummer, guitar rigs 1, 2, 3, amplitubes, akoustik piano, EWQLSO etc) The compatibility laptop list still dates back to the stone age, so anybody who can confirm a working laptop if you could paste your specs that would be brill! pref one that you can still buy would be good :)
And those of you who bought an HP NW9440 is it really working with 7.4 with little or no HW buffer underuns? if so where did you buy them from they dont seem to exist! plus they look bloody terrible! sorry, but they do. :)

Thumbs up Re: Best Laptops for PTLE

I can confirm I have a Fujitsu T2010 tablet working well with Pro Tools LE 7.4 and a Digi 003 Rack, running Vista Business. I am using a SIIG PCMCIA IEEE 1394 adapter.

I had to strip plenty of extras from the factory install. Anyone interested please send me a private message.

I did not do the Dverb test yet, but I was more interested in the tracking performance. I was able to run 20 minutes with 16-tracks recording without a hiccup. I was using an Oyen Firewire enclosure with a Fujitsu 2.5" 7,200 RPM drive.

Wonderful little notebook, but it was purchased for photography field work, not Pro Tools. Glad to find out it works. It does use the same chipset as the Macbooks, so I was not terribly surprised.
