Is UAD workable in PTLE?
Hi Guys,
Its been a while since I've posted here, but now I have a query which you may be able to help me with. At the moment I do a lot of mixing with my Dual G5 and I get by fine with that, but at anothe studio the other day I used some of UAD plugins like the EMT and 1176 and the quality and depth was palpable. Now I know UA state that their cards can be used in PTLE with a vst-rtas wrapper, but really I wnat to know how workable it is with regards to Delay Compensation. I envisage doing most of my mixing as I am at the moment using a mixture of MCDSP, URS and Sonnox plugs but with a few choice UAD plugs such as the EMT plate and the NEVE 33609+EQ's here and there. Could someone who has a UAD card and PTLE please fill me in on the day to daay working s of using a UAD card and PTLE nad the PDC workarounds involved? Also how powerful is one card? Thnaks to one and all!

Re: Is UAD workable in PTLE?
I do like the UAD1 card and highly recommend it, but I will warn you that with ProTools systems---it's hit and miss. For some it works fine while others, disaster. I firmly believe it's because you're using a VST to RTAS wrapper, I am not a fan of wrappers. If it's not a true RTAS driver, it's not truly RTAS. With that said, the UAD1 is really only going to give you a single instance of the NEVE EQ from what I understand. Have you possibly considered the Waves Vintage collection? It's quite awesome!

Re: Is UAD workable in PTLE?
Hi Brad,
Thanks for the advice. This is what I thought. I was just reading the latest issue of tapeop and in that review they are using the UAD Expander with an le mbox rig and it works well. It's not a massive priority for me but If I manage to find a cheap card from someone I will probably pick it up. If i doesn't work well I could sell it on.

Re: Is UAD workable in PTLE?
For EQ and Compression, I'd really give the Focusrite Liquid Mix a serious consideration......HOWEVER, it needs it's own firewire bus.

Re: Is UAD workable in PTLE?
I have thought of that, and I must say the blindfold test on their website is a real eye opener. I'm not in a major rush but hte one thing UAD offers is stuff like the BOSS and EMT effects. Its quite tempting as I should be ablet to take a large weight off my cpu by using the UAD for time based effects which seem to eat up alot of my g5's power.
