Default A question about mastering software

Hello,

I am going to be purchasing some mastering software and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what they are using and how well it works. I'll be spending around $500. Any comments would be appreciated! Thanks

Eric

Hello Micro

i dont know how much T-Racks costs in US but is should be less than $500
I havent used it a lot but most of the times that i ve used it it was very nice - i m not that great in mastering and the presets that it has worked really well for me with small changes

I hope that helps a bit
Waves plug ins are also nice - i think the native bundle includes L1 and Q10 and the S1 imager - i m not sure how much it costs over there though

good luck with your purchace

Hello,

Thanks Vouts, I'll check them out. Also, since this semi-related, are there any cd burning programs that will allow you to burn 24bit files to disk? Adaptec only allows for 16bit. Thanks.

there is no need to burn 24 bit cd's, as there are no cd players that play 24 bit cd's (as far as i know)...

i use a combination. when I bounce a track to disk, the first thing i usually do is open the file in soundforge. I have been using soundforge for a few years, so i'm comfortable with the tools it has to offer for mastering. with soundforge, i can check tthings like rms power and frequency distribution of the track. two things i cannot do with t-racks or PTLE. I usually adjust these things before moving to wavelab. also before hitting wavelab, i make a master file of all the tracks that i will be putting on a cd; i make a complete cd mix file with crossfades and everything with all my mastered tracks. then i open it in wavelab and place the cd track markers where i feel they are necessary. then i burn the cd. there are more steps than that, but that is the meat of it. i do use t-racks for some stuff, but i always keep a version of the file that is not been mastered incase i dont like the effects later. i always doublecheck the tracks rms power and frequency placement as a last step.

At the moment I believe that only the Alesis Masterlink can burn a 24-bit/96k CDR...

Not positive, though...

I do all our mastering with protools and outboard gear. I suggest running thru a BBE and then a limiter, if needed. I prefer the audio quality from protools mastering much more than soundforge.

ReniuR,

So do you record your track into PT, apply comp, gain, etc., send it through your outboard gear, then re-record it into PT?
