ProControl changing monitoring modes for no reason

Has anyone ever had the ProControl suddenly change monitoring modes? For example, some of the ProControls that I have at the college will sometimes go into Surround monitoring vs. Stereo monitoring. This, obviously, causes confusion and problems for the students because the Talkback function will not work and monitoring will not be possible because a certain lab wil be wired for stereo. For some reason, this has been happening frequently recently. Could a student loading a Surround session change the ProControl settings, or is there another reason this could be happening? I'm guessing this is probably a result of students tampering with the ProControl settings. If anyone has ideas on this or have experienced this before, let me know.

I'm curious to know if only certain units exibit this behavior and what the first two letters of the sn are.

I've only seen it happen to 2 of the 7 ProControls I have here at the college. Both of them are the newer NX models.
