Default What versions of ProTools do NOT require m-audio hardware?

As the title states, I'm looking to find out which version of ProTools does NOT require a m-audio and/or compatible device to start-up.

I'd like to use ProTools but don't want anything to do with their hardware.

Thanks for any feedback.

You want "Pro Tools 10".

Thanks for your replies.

Two more questions:

-Does PT10 support installation on Windows and if not...will it ever?
-Does PT10 REQUIRE the dongle to run or can it run without it?

Pro Tools 10 runs like a champ on Windows 7, assuming a properly tweaked and compatible computer("off the shelf" computers are NOT a wise move). Windows XP is not compatible, but Windows 8 appears to be working, with a little fussing(after installing 10, you install 9 on top of it, open 9 once, then uninstall 9, then 10 works great). Pro tools MP, Pro Tools 9 and 10 ALL require an iLok.

Great info there, thanks a ton. One last quest if you don't mind - is it possible to purchase an iLok separately if I already have the software?

The only versions of Pro Tools that do require an M-Audio interface are M-Powered, and the toy version (is it SE?) that you can buy at Toys 'R' Us.
Pro Tools LE (EOL'd at v8) requires a Digidesign/Avid interface.
Pro Tools 9 and 10 work with most interfaces.

How on Earth can any normal human being be expected to jump through so many hoops!? My PT is on Apple and I was going to move to Windows, but I think I'll wait for 11, or just stick with Apple.

That's because he's trying to use PT on a OS that hasn't been approved yet and no drivers has been launched for it yet. If he was running it on Win 7, he wouldn't have to do all of that.
