Default Should I?

Should I Purchase Channel G?

Living in the LE world I knew about this plug but had never used it. Since it became available I decided to download the trial version and all I can say is wow. I have been using Waves SSL and Sony plugs but have not been able to get the vocal sound or the crack of a snare just the way I wanted it. Now that I have been using it for a couple of days and it seems to be easier to get the sounds I am hearing in my head. My only concern is on some of the console presets (API 5) there is no Q adjustment on the eq. Is this just on certain console presets or is this a bug in the LE version? I don't have a manual nor have I had the time to read it online.

The only way for me to get this plug is in the Emerald Pack. I have seen Channel G on ebay for around $500. I am not a big studio. It is mainly just a hobby that brings in a few extra dollars.

Should I buy it off ebay or hold out a little longer to get the Emerald Pack?

Thanks,
Len

I agree with Tord. McDSP plugins are very good, and Channel G both sounds and works great.

I wouldn't worry about fixed Q, fixed threshold, fixed attack/release in some emulations. Remember, very clever engineers and musically intelligent people made the originals, and the same goes for McDSP plugins. I own FB, CB, AC and MC2000. They all sound great, and I will upgrade to Emerald pack in the future.

I am also currently demoing the Channel G and took the time to download and read the manual.
I highly recommend spending some time with the manual as the plugin is quite fiddly and has a whole lot of esoteric controls.

The API eq has no q adjustment just like the real-life API eq has no q adjustment. Also, the q changes as your boost/cut increases. (FWIW, the Sony Oxford EQ emulates this characteristic in either mode 3 or mode 4)

I'm also thinking of purchasing channel G. However it does not seem like you can change the order of the dynamics/eq sections which I wish I could do sometimes. That's a bugaboo I think I would like to see addressed.
