Default problems when hiding tracks.....A Warning !!

I always thought that if you switched a track off by deselecting it from the left hand menu, this pretty much locked the track so that it was protected whilst out of sight.

I just found out this is not the case....I switched a hidden track back on, and unmuted it so i could check how some sounds worked together, only to find the footstep track had been obliterated by another audio file that had been placed over the top.

I had been previewing soundfiles using the workspace, and dragging and dropping files to the visible tracks, and i know once or twice the drag/drop had done something even though the file didn't appear on the timeline. It seems that those unfinished drops had actually dropped the files onto hidden tracks causing untold damage.

And because its dropped onto tracks that i had muted I'd no idea this had happened, and didn't find out until it was too late to step back in the back-up files either. I keep 20 backups at a time and this preceeds them.

Is this a problem with hiding tracks, can it be prevented somehow or have i just done something fundamentally wrong?

thanks
adam

Sounds like you hit the wrong modifier key while dragging from the bin.

There's a modifier key to drop files unseen on hidden tracks??? Or are you just yanking this poor guy's chain.

really?

I never use any modifiers when dragging from the workspace window. Just click on the file and drag it to the timeline - works (nearly) everytime.

what modifiers are you refering to?

You did nothing wrong, it's a bug. Try to create 2 audio track, hide the top one, drag an audio file from the digibase to the visible track, it will en up on the hidden track.

the only way to avoid it is to never hide a track... or never use digibase.
