MAC PRO 7.3.1cs3 Sample rate conversion not working/crashing

Been having this problem for a little while and can't seem to fix it.
My system is not importing audio files that are not at the correct sample rate without added digital distortion/noise.
Totally unusable.
Also on export, if I choose a sample rate other than the current session sample rate, pro tools crashed everytime.

I have since updated to 10.4.9 using the combo undater and protools 7.3.1 cs 3 so should be qualified.
A few days ago a did a un-install of the protools application (using the uninstall utility) and it did not fix this issue.

Anyone else have this? does anyone have a solution?

strange, not sure if this is related but i have noticed when importing a file with a different sample rate, the conversion defaults to "lowest/fastest quality" ? Could that be it?

i noticed that, but no... this is full on distorted sound.

Did you follow the "General Troubleshooting - Pro Tools 6 & 7 Mac OS X" guide yet?

Or try this application.
