Re: Error after 9.0.5 update
I'll tell you.
In Terminal, navigate to /Macintosh HD/Library/StartupItems and check the permissions and ownership on the DigidesignLoader directory. Mine are drwxr-xr-x 5 root wheel. The 5 has to do with the number of links. Eric's permissions and ownership did not match mine. To change the ownership: sudo chown -v -R root:wheel DigidesignLoader To change the permissions: sudo chmod -v -R 755 DigidesignLoader Since these are in the StartupItems folder, you would have to restart after making those changes for the OS to recognize the changes that were made. Disclaimer: Making these sorts of changes with Terminal can be dangerous if you do not know what you are doing. If you execute the commands above and bad things happen to your system, I am not responsible.

Thanks. As a born again Mac user terminal edits are very new to me. Can / should the startup folder be copied prior to such an edit. D |

Re: Error after 9.0.5 update
There is no startup folder. There are several different folders that need to be in proper order for OS X to startup. They are the Library, System, and Users folders. If you want to do anything useful with OS X, the Applications folder needs to be in order as well. There are also several hidden folders that need to be present and accounted for.
The best thing to do if you want to have a backup is to use a program such as Carbon Copy Cloner to make a bootable clone of your startup drive to a second hard drive. Verify that you can boot up off of the clone, then do your poking around with Terminal. If something goes wrong, you have a bootable backup.
